Salon has a good read today on Karl Rove’s comment that he was “offended” by this ad because he saw it as the automakers’ repayment to the Obama administration for the auto bailout. It points out that Eastwood voted for McCain, and that the Republicans might have a problem with voters this year due to their relentlessly negative take on the state of our union. Voters do tire of constant doom and gloom, and it certainly isn’t making breaking up partisan gridlock any easier, or encouraging sane policies going forward.

I liked his observation that we had much greater job growth 1980-2000 with higher taxes than 2000 forward with lower taxes. One prevelant response from those who disliked his opinion is that he should just send more money of his own money to the Treasury. It’s the Rs’ answer for most social and economic problems—solve it with private charity. But Buffet’s wealth is 40 billion, and the deficit is 14 trillion +. Whose math is fuzzy here?
