Should public education in North Carolina change?

Help the Zarco Family Stay Together

My name is Jose Luis Zarco Meraz. I am originally from Veracruz, Mexico. I came to the United States 14 years ago and moved to Charlotte in 1999. I am 36 years old. I am married and I have 3 American-born children (2 girls and a baby boy). I have worked in construction since I arrived in Charlotte.

On June 7, 2011, I was stopped for driving while distracted and crossing a red light. I was arrested for having no valid driver's license. Although the charges have been dropped I am still in deportation proceedings.

Following my arrest I have not been able to focus 100% on my work. What hurts me most is that my daughter saw when I was arrested and it has affected her deeply. She cannot see a person wearing a uniform, because she thinks that they are police officers that will take her dad or mom away. Since then, she has attended psychological therapy sessions. She was diagnosed with posttraumatic stress syndrome. It hurts me to see my daughter go through such a traumatic experience.

I came to this country seeking the American dream. I want to stay here and continue to aspire to it with my family. Since I came to Charlotte, I have worked hard and lived a healthy lifestyle with no criminal record. This past year I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. If I could stay I would like to continue helping them.

I ask you to please give me the opportunity to stay in this great country, which I love so much. I want to continue contributing to my community.

We, the undersigned, ask the Department of Homeland Security to STOP Jose L. Zarco’s (A# 200-972-096) deportation. We ask that you use your discresion and allow Luis to stay in the United States with his family.

Luis has lived in Charlotte since 1999. Since arriving Charlotte, he has gotten married and has 3 American-born children. He works in construction and volunteers on the weekends with Habitat for Humanity. Jose Luis wants to pursue the American dream.

However, he is currently in the process of being deported. Luis has no criminal record and should be allowed to stay here with his family. He is a hardworking father and role model for his community. His goal is to continue contributing to his community. His dream is to see his children grow up into wonderful productive American adults.

According to the memo issued by ICE Director John Morton last year, Luis is not a priority for deportation and should be granted favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion. Luis is an excellent father whose only wish is to raise his children with his wife and family. Jhorgelly, Luis’ 8 year old, has already suffered enough and the entire family is suffering.  Jhorgelly deserves to grow up with her father by her side.

Please allow him to stay in this country that he has grown to love.

I don’t see any benefit to anyone at all in deporting this man. He’s working everyday and paying taxes just like every other American. This coundtry needs more, not fewer, workers and families like the Zarcos.

There Are NO Reasons What So Ever To Deport This Man Who Has Been A Law Abiding Citizen (alas without the papers to which he should be entitled to have). Besides Being A Responsible Good Hard Worker, He’s Also Been A Good Role Model For His Community By Volunteering His Weekends To Habitat For Humanity (ALL of Which Have Been Done By His Own Hard Work & What Can’t Be Said For Some of Our Own Country’s People!) He Deserves The Chance To Continue To Being A Good Hard Working American With His Family Here In America & His Family Deserves To Have Him Here With Them Side By Side & Grow To Be Good American Citizens Too!
